Few months ago I started looking at the skyscrapers on my way to work with different eyes and asked myself why I had never made a good use of the city patterns. How could I have ignored them majesties for more than one year is just an mystery! As a model for this session I thought of somebody with a good sense of style and with editorial features and Alice, with her curly hair, prominent cheekbones, skinny figure and irresistibly magnetic Julia Roberts smile, came immediately to my mind.
I met Alice at the beginning of the year in Soho and I felt immediately at ease with her. Partly because of our roots (we were born and raised in two bordering provinces in the north of Italy), but most of all for her honest attitude. The cloudy moody sunday afternoon we picked for the shooting was not the most encouraging (as it happens very often in London), but we were too enthusiastic to really care. When the moment of truth came, in other words, when the shooting started, Alice let herself go very quickly and surprised me with some natural modeling skills. The whole process flowed in an incredibly smooth way and, after a while spent at the Barbican, we took the photo shoot in the deserted streets of the City.
These portraits were the first ones I took with the Petzval 58 bokeh control art lens.
