Rootless and extravagant dreamers, opinionated and unprejudiced, sharply-witted, independent and faintly narcissistic. These are the Berlin kids in all their beautiful contradictions.
For years I took pride for being told I had a slight resemblance to Orlando Bloom. I personally never saw it, but, quite obviously, it flattered me.
Until I saw Andrius, who’s easily an improved version of Orlando Bloom himself, walking in slow motion towards me for the first time and confidently smiling in my direction. I have to admit I felt a bit pathetic for even conceiving the whole resemblance idea in my mind.
Louise clearly made a clever choice when she picked him, her flatmate at the time, as the face of L.O.M. men’s collection.
Shooting with him was an actual bliss.
Witty, funny, professional and chilled. I very rarely shot with somebody that could follow my directions so precisely and shift from the part of a cocky and flirty Berlin club goer to a relatable and smiley next door heartthrob.
ANDRIUS BY ANDRIUS
Name: Andrius Bačianskas
In Berlin since: 2015
Before Berlin: Hamburg, Hull, Madrid, Klaipeda
Profession: Software Developer
Dream profession: CTO
How would you describe yourself: I love people and free flowing ideas. Ambitious geek with passion to psychology and science of the non-visible.
Biggest inspirations: Will Smith, Allan Watts, Jim Carrey, Marcus Aurelius, Satoshi Nakamoto and Terence Mckenna
The place to be in Berlin: St.Oberholz, Soho house cafe, Vabali, Heide and my bed.
Your best Berlin story: I’ll tell you the craziest one. Once I ended up taking part in a half naked hedonistic collective performance where other members were drawing on my body and my job was just to sit there and make out with this ridiculously beautiful girl. It took place in this mesmerizing art installation full of feathers, bubbles and all the colours one can imagine.
Picture yourself in 10 years: I could really picture myself in San Francisco Bay Area.
“I guess there’s a very clear distinction between me before Berlin and Andrius after Berlin. This place can really turn you inside out if you can make it here. For me this city is a true example how people in this planet should be living together. The crowd here is so diverse, so colourful, so different from each other, living all together in harmony. During these times of political uncertainty when the world is experiencing serious issues like mass migration and rising nationalism I look around the globe and it makes me really sad. Why stepping backwards? Xenophobia, Homophobia, really? Why are you loathing on fear, manipulating the minds? Are you trippin’ bro? I wish I could bring some of those preachers to those thunderstorm parties and provide a therapeutic m i n d & s o u l altering experience. I’ve always seen Berlin as a rather politically conscious place and I’m very glad it adopted me well.”
