At first you can smell an intense, warm and sweetish scent. Countless dry flowers, photographs, heirlooms and laces surround you. You are drenched in a cozy brownish darkness. Details in faded pastel catch your eye wherever you look. The heavy silence is broken by the creaking sound of your steps on the floor and on the wooden stairs. The corridors are craving to tell you stories of a lifetime and none of them is melancholic. It feels like time has stopped ages ago in this place and if you close your eyes you can still hear laughters, cheerful idle chatters and the sound of dishes during a familiar dinner. You just can’t help but feel that so much love has been living between these walls and underneath this roof. You’ve never been here before but you already like this place.

That’s how I felt the first time I went to visit Isabel’s grandparents in Austia. I’ve always been fond of capturing that magic atmosphere and eventually I took the chance on January, using Isabel and Vaniglia, her bunny, as models.

Sunshine on a rainy day, they say.
